360 CHICAGO Presents: CloudWalk Call for Artists

Showcase Your Art at Chicago’s Highest Gallery

360 CHICAGO invites local Chicago artists to submit their creative visions for the city’s highest outdoor art exhibit in CloudWalk. This is your opportunity to share your Chicago-centric art with a global audience, displayed 1,030 feet above the Magnificent Mile.
Selected Artist Commission Rate: $10,000
One talented artist will be selected for this high-profile installation, given a $10,000 commission to bring their vision to life in CloudWalk. The winning installation will be on view starting in April 2027, transforming CloudWalk into a rotating gallery that celebrates Chicago’s diverse artistic community and unique perspectives.

Submission Details

Submissions deadline is  January 18th, 2027
Painters and muralists are encouraged to apply. Building on two recent painted installations in CloudWalk, we are looking for artists with a unique perspective on Chicago and a vision for how we can transform the space. Submissions must capture a Chicago-themed concept that embodies the spirit, community, and vibrancy of the city. Installation concepts should incorporate muralistic elements and creatively engage visitors in the CloudWalk space.

  • Submissions should incorporate Chicago-centric themes such as community, innovation, urban life and natural beauty. Please also review the CloudWalk Reference Guide.
  • Artists are encouraged to consider how painting, color, scale, and visual storytelling can transform the CloudWalk space while complementing the surrounding city views.
  • The installation should allow light to pass through CloudWalk’s windows, preserving the iconic views for all guests.
  • Weather Considerations: As CloudWalk is an outdoor space, concepts must be durable and suitable for exposure to varying weather conditions, including temperature fluctuations, rain and wind. Selected installations should be able to withstand Chicago’s changing seasons.

  • A brief description about your concept and how it connects to Chicago’s character.
  • Design sketches, renderings or visuals of your proposed installation.
  • A resume or CV, including a portfolio of past works.

To qualify, artists must meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: Must reside in the Chicagoland area.
  • Age: 18 years or older.
  • Experience: Must have experience with commissioned work.

A panel of Chicago-based art and community leaders will review all submissions and select three finalists. From these finalists, one inaugural artist will be selected and commissioned to create their installation for a $10,000 commission.

Finalists will be notified in early 2027, and the selected artist will be announced shortly thereafter.

Current Installation

Local Chicago artist Coleman Smoll, the most recent artist to exhibit at CloudWalk, transformed the space with eight hand-painted murals inspired by Chicago’s neighborhoods and their shared views of the iconic 875 N. Michigan Ave. building. Inspired by Monet’s “Stacks of Wheat,” the murals shift through seasons and times of day, featuring neighborhood views like Garfield Park, Lakeview East and Roscoe Village, while floor tiles showcase an aerial view of the building in the clouds.
