High above the Magnificent Mile, Chicago’s most thrilling attraction is celebrating a birthday. This year, 360 CHICAGO celebrates 12 years of TILT, the one-of-a-kind experience that has been thrilling visitors from around the world since opening in May 2014.
Over the past 12 years, nearly 5 million brave “TILTers” have stepped up to the glass, leaned out over the city, and experienced Chicago from an entirely new perspective. From first-time visitors crossing it off their bucket list to locals returning with friends and family, TILT has become a signature part of the Chicago skyline experience.

Perched more than 1,000 feet above the city inside 875 North Michigan Avenue, TILT is more than just a thrill attraction, it’s an engineering achievement that reflects Chicago’s long-standing reputation for architectural innovation. Built with some of the world’s leading engineers and designers, TILT was developed by the Montparnasse 56 Group alongside award-winning engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti, with Cupples serving as façade specialist, Turner Special Projects as general contractor, and Gensler as architect of record.
While the views may look effortless, the technology behind TILT is anything but ordinary.
The attraction features a stationary base paired with a movable steel viewing platform that gently pivots 30 degrees outward beyond the building. Using three overhead hydraulic actuators, the platform tilts guests over Michigan Avenue below. The enclosed viewing area is built with several layers of reinforced, fully tempered glass panels, while a reinforced glass roof helps protect the space from weather and debris.
Designed to safely hold up to eight guests at a time, TILT combines innovation, architecture, and adrenaline into one unforgettable moment.
But what truly makes TILT special is the experience itself.
Guests step into the enclosed platform, grip the handrails, and slowly lean outward as the city sparkles beneath them. No two rides are ever exactly the same and that’s part of what has made TILT a must-visit Chicago experience for the last 12 years.

As Chicago continues to push the boundaries of architecture and innovation, TILT continues to represent the city’s spirit. From the birthplace of the skyscraper came an attraction bold enough to tilt people out over the edge of one.
Here’s to 12 years of breathtaking views, unforgettable memories, and the thrill of leaning out over Chicago.
Happy Birthday TILT!!
