Continue your support by offering your business to Uncommon Closet, a custom clothing and tailoring shop for all sizes and genders. While fashion is certainly important, so is your health! Start your health journey right this month with Huetzca Health, a skin heath store rooted in herbal medicine that's both Chicago made, unisex and vegan! Perhaps even more important than physical health is the impact of mental health care. Chicago is proud to have so many important organizations to address critical needs within the LGBTQIA communities. While it is certainly a time for celebration, it goes without saying that the history of this community needs love and support always. 

Critical to Chicago LGBTQIA communities 

Howard Brown Health is a vital and accessible Chicago Health Center for LGBTQIA youth and adults alike. For the month of June, 360 CHICAGO is giving back to Howard Brown by taking donations online at 360 CHICAGO. Along with the impact of accessible healthcare and safe spaces for this community is the Brave Space Alliance. The Brave Space Alliance is the first Black led, trans-led LGBTQ+ Center located on the South Side. This center is focused and dedicated to providing  resources and programming for the south and west side queer communities, to ensure they are empowered and supported always.

LGBTQIA Rights and Services 

Progress is made every day, but the fight is far from over. Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund is an civil rights organization focusing on the LGBTQIA community as well as those living with HIV/AIDS. Their mission equality through impact litigation and work in public policy. You can also support the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. This foundation continues to suppport the cuase and fight the effect of the disease's long history in the community. It is important to recognize the profound impact of LGBTQIA history, and those we have lost along the way.

About the Artist

Yayoi Kusama's experience Let's Survive Forever is arguably the most popular experience at WNDR Museum! The Infinity Mirrored Room immerses the visitor completely in stainless steel mirrors and reflective balls stemming from the ceiling and settled on the flooring. Kusama's work as an artist started in the Vietnamese era and her creative expression spans over six decades. Completing her first mirrored room in 1965, she converted her medium from paintings and sculptures to illusions of infinite space.

The highlight of this month will not let you down. Women & Children First is a locally renowned and well deserved Chicago staple. First opening in the 1970s, this trans inclusive feminist book store offered not only resources and tools for transformative literature but also the safe space for LGBTQIA readers and visitors alike. It is one of the largest feminist bookstores in the United States with over 20,000 books by and about women.

Visitors can purchase not just books but buttons, journals, cards, and posters; and they can participate in discussions, readings and events as well. Women & Children First continues to champion local and independent business by curating inclusive feminist works and fostering dialogue about the power of literature.

Something new on our list is a digital storefront. Founder Omtola Akinbiyi took her inspiration for Bon Femmes from both a lifelong excitement for the creative arts and witnessing an underrepresentation of women as creatives.

The collections at Bon Femme are not only all curated by women, but also, a percentage of the proceeds from the sales will be donated to women led charities. (This month is Sarah's Circle). Guests can purchase apparel, beauty products, art prints and stationary and the packaging is 95% recyclable! Founders Danyelle & Dionna Gray created the Womanish Experience. Womanish is an intersectional and culturally inclusive safe space curated to showcasing the perspectives and conversations about womxn and a womxns perspective in life (spelling with x with respect to gender neutral pronouns). This 5 story multi sensory space includes installations from around the world, all of which not only by womxn but catering to and touching on issues that affect all womxn globally. These issues include the gender pay gap, the pink tax, and censorship. Womanish is an immersive experience and a perfect balance of the lightheartedness but also the seriousness and intensity within its' themes.
